Hugh Seaman

Hugh Francis Seaman was born on September 26, 1924, in New York. His father, Hugh, was 25 and his mother, Charlotte, was 22. He had one sister Betty. In Rye his family lived at 546 Milton Road and were members of Christ Church.

Hugh was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1943. He left high school early and enlisted November 16, 1942 in U.S. Marine Corps.

He served three years overseas as a member of an Amph Trac Crew (LVT) and rose to the rank of sergeant. See Muster Rolls

The Amphibious Vehicle, Tracked (LVT) was an amphibious warfare vehicle and amphibious landing craft, introduced by the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. The LVT spearheaded every major assault landing in the Pacific War

Post war Hugh was a star of the Marine tennis team at Paris Island. He received his honorable discharge November 4, 1947.

He married Alice Hughes and in 1947 they had one daughter. The marriage ended in divorce in 1948.

He died on February 27, 1987, in Dade City, Florida, at the age of 62.
